Viewership
On the first full day this page went live, 100,000 people visited this Rotten News page. Of course that was the day after the WTC attacks, so that number is somewhat distorted. Right now this page gets between 50,000 and 75,000 people every day.

Lawsuit filed over pilfered head
Sacramento Bee | Submitted by: Sir Scrotum
"The family of a man whose body was donated to UC Davis Medical Center for research is suing the center after body parts from cadavers were found last summer in the possession of a former autopsy assistant. Alan David Scott and Terry Whitten filed suit in Sacramento Superior Court recently alleging negligence and the intentional infliction of emotional distress as a result of the discovery that their father's head had been kept in a bag stored in the assistant's tool shed for nearly 11 years. The suit, which does not specify a dollar amount sought, also names the assistant, David Lawrence Beale, and Pathology Support Services Inc., Beale's former employer, as defendants... Beale is accused of stealing more than 150 pounds of human remains from the medical center program over an 11-year period."

More Wal-Mart rage
Chicago Sun-Times | Submitted by: Chuck F. Cheese
"Lennell Greer was charged Friday with beating two people at a Wal-Mart store in Forest Park on Christmas Eve... prosecutors charged Greer, 41, of Broadview, and a 15-year-old boy with the attack on Matthew Baures, 22, of Berwyn, and the woman. Both were charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery. Police said the boy struck the victims with the bat, and Greer also hit them... While Baures and the woman believe there were four or five attackers, Forest Park Police Chief Jim Ryan said police arrested the 'two major aggressors.' Wal-Mart officials said they were investigating the incident and the actions of their security staff."

Security guard shoots Meat Puppets bassist
AZ Central | Submitted by: FastEddy
"Cris Kirkwood, the bass player for the Meat Puppets, a Phoenix band that became a national act in the 1980s and 1990s, was shot Friday after an altercation with a security guard at the downtown Phoenix post office... '[The guard] took out the baton and held it out in front of him and said, "You need to leave,"' [FBI agent Kevin Killigrew] said. 'The guy took the baton from him and struck him at least one time in the forehead at which time the guard felt fear for his life. He said, "I thought the guy was going to kill me." He already displayed that he would hurt him, and the guard shot him one time in the abdomen.'"

Riot cops clamp down on stall-vending
Mainichi Daily News | Submitted by: efgkt
"A government crackdown involving hundreds of riot police, barricades and the brutal demolition of businesses that had operated for decades is hardly something to sing about, especially when all the action was aimed at operators of karaoke stalls. Osaka's Tennoji Park had been famous for years because of the people who used to set up makeshift humpies where people could come and belt out one of their favorite tunes for just a couple of coins at almost any hour of the day... But the stall operators balked, understandable considering some of them had been working there for decades and they had built up a considerable reputation for themselves."

Particularly troubled Chuck E. Cheese franchise
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel | Submitted by: Chuck F. Cheese
"Chuck E. Cheese has become, at least for some adults, a place where the frenzy of Skee Ball, pizza, alcohol and manic children translates into emotional overload... Michael Moreland, 32, of Milwaukee was punched in the face by an unknown man on Jan. 4 after confronting him because he was rattling a game machine so hard that it was unplugging a neighboring machine on which Moreland's 8-year-old daughter was playing. Despite being asked to leave by employees, the man turned to Moreland, began yelling obscenities, gestured with his middle finger and continued to rattle the machine. The girl's father became enraged and said to the man, 'Boy, who do you think you are? You don't do this kind of stuff at place like this.' The man punched Moreland in the face."

Couple joins Mile High Club hall of fame
Sun | Submitted by: whatsnew74
"When the 757ís cabin crew noticed it had been engaged for more than 15 minutes, a steward went to investigate. After hearing grunts and groans through the door, he decided to unlock it from the outside - and revealed the naked couple in mid-romp. One passenger by the loo said: 'There was a woman facing the wall and her companion standing behind with his trousers round his ankles. When they realised someone had opened the door, they just froze. And when it dawned on them that half the aeroplane was watching, their faces went beetroot red.'"

CIA museum includes fake poo
Wire Services | Submitted by: THE MIGHTY SNERT
"When the CIA's secret gadget-makers invented a listening device for the Asian jungles, they disguised it so the enemy wouldn't be tempted to pick it up and examine it: The device looked like tiger droppings... The fist-sized, brown transmitter detected troop movements along the trails during fighting in Vietnam, a quiet success for a little-known group of researchers inside the world's premier intelligence agency. The CIA's Directorate of Science and Technology is celebrating its 40th anniversary by revealing a few dozen of its secrets for a new museum inside its headquarters near Washington. Keith Melton, a leading historian of intelligence, calls it 'the finest spy museum you'll never see.'"

Man arrested for recording on-duty cop
Lawrence Eagle-Tribune | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"An 18-year-old Lawrence man is charged with unlawful wire tapping for using his cellular phone to record a conversation he had with a police officer, police said. Police said Officer Daniel Lannon was questioning a group of shoppers while responding to a false 911 call made from a payphone outside the Market Basket at 350 Turnpike St. about 6 p.m. Tuesday. Lannon reported that Luis D. Dominguez, 47 Chelmsford St., repeatedly interrupted the conversation. Lannon told Dominguez that police did not need to talk to him. Dominguez then accused Lannon of being a racist and became combative, police said. As a 'loud verbal discussion' began between Dominguez and Lannon, the Lawrence teen used a feature on his cellular phone to record what was happening, said Detective Lt. Paul J. Gallagher. Lannon told Dominguez that recording the conversation was illegal, and asked him to stop. When the teen refused Lannon arrested him... Essex County District Attorney Mary Alice Doyle said unlawful wire tapping carries a maximum fine of $10,000 and five years in jail." [Unbelievable. Should the LAPD have arrested the videographer of the Rodney King beating? If anything, it should be illegal to prevent a citizen from recording a uniformed police officer in a public space.]
