"According to the Washington Post newspaper, the Senate Intelligence Committee will focus its criticism on the CIA and its director George Tennet... Schwarzenegger not yet completely off the hook
KNBC-TV 4 Los Angeles | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger calls the whole thing 'old news,' but the sexual misconduct allegations leveled against him in the closing days of his campaign are not going away... State Sen. Jackie Speier, a Democrat, said Friday that Schwarzenegger should take the same half-day sexual harassment training course required of other California public employees... In recent days, David Letterman has entertained his "Late Night" audience with clips of old Schwarzenegger movies showing him grabbing one woman's buttocks and urging another to seductively lick a carrot stick."

Jesus freak faces trial for soliciting teen sex
Yale Daily News | Submitted by: ringo
"Reverend Stephen White, infamous for preaching against homosexuality and sexual promiscuity at Yale and other college campuses, now faces charges that he solicited sex from a teenage boy in a Philadelphia suburb... White was arrested in June after he allegedly offered $20 to a 14-year-old boy in West Chester, Pa. for permission to perform oral sex on him. According to the boy's sworn affidavit, White approached him in a green Ford van and asked if he knew of any strip clubs, adult book stores or shops that sold sexually explicit videos. When then the boy said he did not, White unsuccessfully attempted to lure the boy into the vehicle. White then told the boy he could 'make some money' by letting White perform fellatio on him."

Never fuck with Icelanders
Sky News | Submitted by: Phill
"Captain Sigurdur Petursson was on a beach in Kuummiit, east Greenland, watching his crew processing a catch when he saw the shark swimming towards his men. The skipper of the trawler Erik the Red ran into the shallow water and grabbed the shark by its tail with his bare hands. He dragged it off to dry land and killed it with his knife... Icelandic author and journalist Reynir Traustason, who knows the trawler captain, said the act was typical of the man. 'He's called "the Iceman" because he isn't scared of anything,' he said. 'I know the people in that part of the world. They are really tough.'"

Army recruiting effort targets urban demographic
Baltimore Sun | Submitted by: Sans_A_Cause
"An amateur rap contest and free subscriptions to the popular hip-hop magazine The Source were featured yesterday as the Army put on a 'Campus Combat' tour aimed at finding minority recruits at the University of Maryland, College Park. The Army expects the 'Campus Combat' tour to attract thousands of ethnic minorities at five eastern campuses over the next week, and generate thousands of leads to help meet its goal of about 100,000 recruits a year... 'We're looking for the next Biggie Smalls, and the Army is looking to increase its popularity among people of ethnicity,' said Ousmane Sam, the mobile promotional director and the event's host. 'I think we'll both reap the benefits here.'"

Pipe-wielding maniac no killed by Detriot citizenry
WDIV-TV 4 Detroit | Submitted by: grobda
"Police say a man in his 20s went on a rampage along Plymouth Road on Detroit's west side, attacking several women with a pipe. There was no obvious motive for the attacks as the man apparently did not attempt to sexually assault or rob his victims, Local 4 reported. Police say at least five girls or women were attacked before some local residents decided to take action in what they referred to as Detroit-style street justice... a gray-color Grand Prix pulled up, and the persons inside the car fired five shots at the alleged attacker. Powell said the man then ran into an alley, where he was chased down and run over by the Grand Prix. The people inside the car then shot the man and left him behind, lying on the ground."

San Francisco's mayor-for-a-day stages mini coup
San Francisco Chronicle | Submitted by: Gweeds
"In a move some called gutsy and others childish, San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daly used his powers as acting mayor Wednesday to appoint two people to the powerful Public Utilities Commission while Mayor Willie Brown was traveling in Tibet. It was a premeditated stroke of opportunism that observers said was without parallel in modern political times at City Hall and caught the Brown administration and Daly's Board of Supervisor colleagues by surprise. Unless Brown can muster eight votes on the 11-member board to overturn Daly's act, the appointments are likely to stand, city lawyers said, and would go down as audacious coup against one of the great political gamesmen in California history."

OK to shave stepdaughter's pubes in Norway
pub.tv2.no | Submitted by: Tommy G
"According to the Supreme Court, it is not a sexual assault when a caretaker shaves a 10-year-old’s pubic hair. However, the man has always claimed that he never shaved the girl and that she did it herself while he was sleeping."

Celebrity stalker sues quarry
Wire Services | Submitted by: Mean Gene
"A Japanese businessman who was ordered to stay away from Britney Spears sued the pop star in Los Angeles federal court on Thursday, accusing her security guards of brandishing a gun at him and causing 'extreme emotional distress.' Masahiko Shizawa, a 43-year-old software entrepreneur from Yokohama, says Spears' guards confronted him on a public street at gunpoint and demanded that he leave the area... At an Oct. 7 hearing, a state judge ordered Shizawa not to contact the entertainer and to stay at least 300 yards from her for three years... Judge Alan Haber determined that Shizawa 'engaged in a pattern of harassment and stalking' Spears for more than a year."

New bird species discovered, destroyed
CNN | Submitted by: Timotheus
"Naturalists celebrated the discovery of a new species of bird - a blue-flecked, seed-eating finch - in Venezuela, but they mourned that a state electricity company destroyed its only known habitat to make way for a dam... the species was first spotted on Carrizal Island, an uninhabited islet on the Caroni river in biodiverse southeastern Venezuela, in July 2001. It took two years for researchers to conclude the bird, of which three examples were found, was a new species. They called it the Carrizal Seedeater. In that time, the bird's habitat of thickets of spiny bamboo on the island were razed as part of the construction of a massive hydroelectric dam."

The DoD made us do it
Security Focus | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"By January 2005, the DoD will require all suppliers to place RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags on their goods. The feds hope this technology will help it keep track of massive inventories and improve transaction speeds... Many have questioned whether the benefits of RFID tags are worth the privacy baggage they bring. It may be nice for Wal-Mart or Dell to keep track of their inventory, but some consumers worry that the little hum in their razor might not always be used for the best of intentions." [Five years from now, we'll be swimming in these fucking RFID tags.]

School board member runs over cop
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette | Submitted by: Munhall Flash
"The arrest last night of the husband of a South Allegheny school board member triggered a bizarre chain of events that led to the board member being charged with striking the district's police chief with her car and the cancellation of today's classes... Eugene 'Gino' Dozzi, 44, was arrested at the couple's home last night and charged with inciting South Allegheny High School students to engage in a food fight in the school cafeteria in April and supplying cigarettes to some of the students. Terry Dozzi, who found out about the arrest during a school board meeting last night, rushed over to Burnett's office on Ninth Street to await her husband's arraignment. Burnett, who witnessed the incident, said Dozzi's car came up Allegheny Avenue and turned on to Ninth, struck [District Police Chief Kristopher I. Kircher], who was standing across the street from the office, and kept going... Kircher said Eugene Dozzi told three students at his house to start a food fight in the school cafeteria and to 'resist and assault police officers if any attempts were made to detain them.'"

Kid ticketed for inadvertent $.25 theft
ABC TV affiliates | Submitted by: The Good Doctor
"A Deer Park High School student is facing criminal charges for what he and his parents call a strange case of school discipline. He's accused of stealing 25 cents worth of melted cheese from the school cafeteria... 'I was walking out of the door and the lady called me over,' Campbell said. 'I said okay. She asked me what I had, and I told her cheese. She told me that cost 25 cents and I said "OK, let me give you 25 cents for this cheese." And she said "No. Give me your ID."' The next thing Campbell knew, Deer Park Police were giving him a ticket... If charged, Campbell will receive a fine of $150, not to mention the cost of a defense attorney. Deer Park officials tell Eyewitness News the school has one to five cheese thefts per week and this is how they will continue to handle the suspected thefts." [Let's do the math: The school loses between $.25 and $1.25 per week to cheese thievery. Multiply by 52 weeks (maximum), that means an annual shrinkage of no more than $65. Excellent set of priorities you have there, fucking morons.]
