Homeowners stockpiled 500 gallons of human feces

"Health officials found about a year's worth of human waste in a Washtenaw County yard, according to a report. The waste is contained in 110 five-gallon pails lined up behind an abandoned house on Willis Road in Augusta Township, according to a report in The Ann Arbor News. The residents were reportedly ordered to hook up to the municipal sewer services or fix their failed septic system more than two years ago."

Mallard hit Biggs on a highway after a night of drinking and using drugs, then drove home with him lodged in her windshield and left him to die in her garage. ...†Medical experts testified during her trial that Biggs was probably alive for one to two hours after he was hit and that he probably would have survived he had gotten medical treatment."

Supreme Court rules in favor of child molesters

"An estimated 800 California child molesters will have their convictions overturned or their pending cases dropped following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling barring states from retroactively erasing statutes of limitations, the state's top prosecutor says. The Supreme Court on a 5-4 vote Thursday overturned the nation's only law designed to ensnare molesters who committed their crimes decades ago. ... The ruling, California Attorney General Bill Lockyer said, 'will allow child molesters to escape prosecution simply because they preyed on our children years ago.'" DirecTV pirate sentenced to five years, $180 million fine

"A man who schemed to steal satellite television signals now has something much bigger than a cable bill to pay -- a whopping $180 million restitution order on which he is to make monthly payments on for the next 30,000 years. Steven R. Frazier will also serve five years in federal prison on a conspiracy charge. Frazier, 28, had plead guilty to a scheme to manufacture and sell devices which would decrypt satellite television signals and allow people to get premium service for free."

Nike loses Supreme Court decision, faces lawsuit

"With a Supreme Court decision that rattled corporate America, the coast is now clear for a San Francisco activist to go to trial with his claims that clothing giant Nike has been untruthful in its ads and statements defending overseas labor practices. Marc Kasky is free to pursue claims he first made in 1996 and 1997, that Nike has repeatedly misrepresented its employment practices in the Third World. He was thrilled Thursday that his case could now be heard on the merits and would not be sidetracked by Nike's contention that the company famous for its trademark swoosh enjoyed the First Amendment protection of free speech. 'We now have the opportunity to go to trial to determine if Nike's comments were true or not.'"

Mass wedding of donkeys to combat Indian drought

Several hundred devotees chanted mantras to bless the donkeys in eternal union in an hour-long ritual true to local Hindu marriage customs in all respects save species. ... While donkey marriages have been conducted in the past as part of prayers for rain in Tamil Nadu villages, it was believed to be the first time such a ceremony was held in Madras."
