Mid-air romance goes bad
The Olympian | Submitted by: nordridge

Pretty much everyone in this piece behaved badly.

Being ugly is attractive too
New Scientist | Submitted by: PeaceFire
"Ugly individuals can sometimes do better than good-looking ones," says evolutionary biologist Rob Brooks of the University of New South Wales in Sydney. If the same holds true for people, then it may be time to stop worrying about how closely you adhere to the Hollywood ideal of attractiveness." The second link is to a picture of James P. Watson (see above story.)

Big Brother flies a Cessna, denies ELINT gathering
Guardian | Submitted by: AntiGuru
"The FBI said Thursday that the plane is being used in monitoring people who might have terrorist connections... Besides individuals, they said, the aircraft is monitoring vehicles and businesses, particularly those open late at night from which faxes or e-mails can be sent." They deny that any ELINT is going on, but there's really no point to such overflights otherwise.

A war of reserves: the dollar or euro
Ratical | Submitted by: Godot54321
This story offers a macroeconomic analysis of why Gov. Bush is so dedicated to invading Iraq. It also explains why the French and Germans are against the war: they want the euro to become the reserved currency of the Middle East. If you thought the strong dollar was a myth, you may soon be correct: "The strength of the U.S. dollar since 1945 rests on its being the international reserve currency. Thus it assumes the role of fiat currency for global oil transactions... The U.S. prints hundreds of billions of these fiat petro-dollars, which are then used by nation states to purchase oil/energy from [most] OPEC producers... These petro-dollars are then re-cycled from OPEC back into the U.S. via Treasury Bills or other dollar-denominated assets such as U.S. stocks, real estate, etc."

PETA twats co-opt Holocaust
BBC | Submitted by: Alexander
Who needs farce when you've got PETA: "The images show Holocaust victims, emaciated men, crowds of people being forced onto trains, children behind barbed wire, heaps of human bodies, which are set next to similar images of cattle, pigs and chickens. They all appear under the message: 'To animals, all people are Nazis'... But PETA member Matt Prescott, the creator of the campaign, said he himself is Jewish and his family lost several members in Nazi concentration camps." PETA probably doesn't even believe dogs can be racist.

"Richard Perle: One of Bush's foreign policy advisors, he is the chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board.
