Atlanta Journal-Constitution | Submitted by: Dirty Sammy
Quiet and well dressed, he started riding between south Fulton and Alpharetta's Crabapple Middle School as part of a program that allows some students to attend schools outside their neighborhood to promote racial balance... Two girls frantically tried to pull the teenager off Clanton. Before letting go, he sank his teeth into her face and yanked hard... "I heard a ripping sound and it felt like my whole face was coming off," she said."

Welcome to Mean TV
Guardian | Submitted by: Ann Onymous
"When camcorders became widespread, it was only a matter of time before videoed human pratfalls and masturbating baboons became prime-time fodder. And so it came to pass, first in a segment of a show called Game for a Laugh, then in Jeremy Beadle's long-running series You've Been Framed. What is the impulse to watch this show? As Homer Simpson memorably put it: "Man fall down. Funny."

And what was your first clue?
Wire Services | Submitted by: Tank's Grrl
Caffeine can keep kids up at night? Whoah. "The survey, published in the January issue of Pediatrics, included nearly 200 7th- through 9th-grade students who recorded their sleep patterns and their daily intake of caffeinated drinks and foods over two weeks. "The average intake of caffeine was just 63 milligrams, equivalent to about one-half of a cup of coffee. Children who reported higher intakes of caffeine were found to sleep fewer hours, were more likely to wake during the night and tended to be sleepier during the day."

Wired | Submitted by: SeMeN SPeRmS
"Wireless networks provide the perfect infrastructure for feeding audio, and now video, back to parties located anywhere on the planet. The increasing accuracy of the location-tracking systems implemented in wireless phones and their supporting networks should also raise a red flag."

Lying on highway is a fatal mistake
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette | Submitted by: drewicide
"One moment, 44 year old John Nolan was lying alone in the dark on a well traveled road, drunk and smoking a cigarette, investigators think... Seconds later, he was thrown into the middle of the three-lane highway, his legs snapped by a pickup truck whose driver then stopped 50 yards up the road, checked his vehicle and drove on... Moments after that, Nolan was run over and killed by a van whose bewildered driver saw would-be rescuers standing on the roadway and veered to avoid them, hitting Nolan instead."

It's not about the oil
Green Party | Submitted by: Salamander
"For several years prior to 9-11 the giant US oil corporation Unocal had planned to construct an oil pipeline in Afghanistan. It had been blocked by the Taliban, much as Iraq is struggling to prevent a complete US takeover of its much coveted oil-producing facilities. It is no coincidence that the US selection for President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, had been an executive with Unocal and is now proceeding with the pipeline development project, with the help of the World Bank." Perhaps a bit biased because of the source, but interesting nonetheless.
