But is it art?
Guardian | Submitted by: tp
"The artist Damien Hirst said last night he believed the terrorists responsible for the September 11 attacks "need congratulating" because they achieved "something which nobody could ever have thought possible" on an artistic level. Hirst, who is no stranger to controversy, said many people would "shy away" from looking at the event as art but he believed the World Trade Centre attack was "kind of like an artwork in its own right."

General Ashcroft's concentration camps
Village Voice | Submitted by: toiletstl
"Attorney General John Ashcroft's announced desire for camps for U.S. citizens he deems to be 'enemy combatants' has moved him from merely being a political embarrassment to being a constitutional menace." Actually, ever since General Ashcroft pushed the U.S. Patriot Act through an overwhelmingly supine Congress soon after September 11, he has subverted more elements of the Bill of Rights than any attorney general in American history.

New Moon is only garbage
NASA | Submitted by: JJ
We've successfully polluted orbital space now, too. "The brightness of J002E3 seems to match the expected brightness of an S-IVB [Saturn IV, third booster] stage. Further circumstantial evidence suggests that this object is in fact the Apollo 12 stage, which was left in a very distant Earth orbit after it passed by the Moon on November 18, 1969."

While appealing his death sentence, he has spent time writing children's books and coordinating an international peace effort for youths... Police ask stores to take fingerprints
Ft. Worth Star-Telegram | Submitted by: dianalily
"Police are asking businesses to voluntarily participate in a program to take customers' fingerprints if they pay by check. Operation Thumbs Up, scheduled to begin citywide Sunday, aims to help authorities identify check theft and forgery by obtaining a source of identification that can't be stolen or faked: fingerprints. The system is similar to those used by banks that require fingerprints on checks." It's so much easier than a urine sample, but less obvious than a DNA sample.
