Totally uncool son harshes dad's mellow
Seattle Post-Intelligencer | Submitted by: Spookbabe
It turns out that if you narc out your parents, people don't like you. Holy shit! "He says half his relatives are mad at him. He's 'found out who my friends really are' while trying to avoid Kentwood High School classmates who scorned him, calling him 'a weasel' and names much worse than that." Nobody likes a snitch, particularly one snitching on things that should be legal anyway.

Why RIAA wants to kill internet radio
Newsweek | Submitted by: Soylent
The record labels are in a pretty good position right now, they can payola a little money (grumbling about it in the process) and the songs they want to sell get heard on broadcast radio. If Internet radio is allowed to thrive, however, that homogeneity is lost because the DJ's are too independent. It becomes impossible to get your new single heard by lots of people and the labels' marketing investment is lost. They want us to think that somehow this is a bad thing, that not hearing music which would not otherwise survive on its own merits is a terrible loss for us. Feh.

Women prison officers on sexual power trip
Stuff NZ | Submitted by: Biggles
"In one example, a female officer was leaning down to tie up her shoe laces in a control room, with several male officers present. As she bent over one of the officers stepped forward, undoing the fly of his trousers, and said 'while you're down there...'" So many dropping the soap jokes so little time.

Osama is dead. Maybe
Arab News | Submitted by: Ann Onymous
"Of course, we cannot produce the body or pinpoint the grave. What we have in mind is Bin Laden's death as a political operator. With an ego the size of Mount Everest, Osama Bin Laden would not have, could not have, remained silent for so long. He had always liked to take credit even for things he had nothing to do with. So, would he remain silent for nine months during which his illusions have been shattered one after another?"

Playtime Goes BOOM
CNN | Submitted by: Pee Ball
A five year old Georgia boy and his sister were playing in the street when they found a "device" next to a truck. Said object was apparently a homemade bomb; it went off, with predictable results. "They were apparently playing around that trailer when they came across this device and it detonated... It's just a tragic, tragic thing."

Hells Angels, Hackers, Murder
Toronto Star | Submitted by: lodri
"This is just one example of how the Angels and other outlaw biker gangs have grasped the advantages of the information age and how they put that information to use. Within months of the computer theft, an undercover police agent was dead. Being a computer expert for the bikers themselves is no safer, even though the titles of Web master and hacker are now among the gangs' most vital and valued positions. Two Web masters for the Bandidos gang have been murdered since January 2001."

Ice cream turf war samurai

"A history of bad blood over an ice-cream selling turf war had shadowed the families of an accused killer and his alleged victim, a Melbourne court was told... A cowboy for US Surgeon General
Nando Times | Submitted by: Ann Onymous
Bush's latest pick for Surgeon General once killed a guy: "In 1999, Carmona spotted one driver assaulting another after a car accident and intervened. After he was shot at, Carmona fired back. As the administration tells it, he then tried to stanch the man's ultimately fatal wound." This is a fabrication however, according to the LA Times, "Carmona did not try to save the man after shooting him but went to his car to reload his revolver." It's actually not this issue that bothers us, it's the things his colleagues say about the man, including his inability to work "in an effective or even a civil manner" with others. And why did it take three times to past his board exam?

Dead 9/11 relatives not rich enough for families
New York Times | Submitted by: Elizabeth
Are these people for real? "There are some people who are surprised to hear that their loved ones weren't who they thought, or had unrealistic views of what their wife or husband did, what they earned, what their potential was for the future," said Mitchell Kleinman, general counsel for the investment firm Keefe, Bruyette & Woods... Some families, in fact, may find the financial pictures put together by the companies so dispiriting or disappointing that they may forgo the fund and sue..." Note to families: This is NOT money you are naturally entitled to, but a generosity on behalf of the rest of us.
