Shit for art explodes on scene
Sydney Morning Herald | Submitted by: Clove
"The canned faeces of Piero Manzoni, one of Italy's most controversial artists, were bought by the gallery from a sale at Sotheby's." Neat. But the motives of the artist remain cloudy: "At least 45 of the original 90 cans have exploded, however. This is exactly what Manzoni intended. Soon after he created the cans he told a friend "I hope these cans explode in the vitrines of the collectors."

NC spends settlement on tobacco, not health
Charlotte Observer | Submitted by: wingnut
The State of North Carolina won $4.6B from tobacco companies because of health issues suffered by their residents, but none of that has gone to remedy any of the health problems suffered there. Instead, the little money that has gone out, was used to make the tobacco farmers more competitive. Other states aren't doing what they promised either, diverting the money to whatever pet projects are handy.

British Bobbies or Keystone Kops?
Independent | Submitted by: Ann Onymous
"Britain's detectives are failing to catch and convict many criminals because they are not good enough, according to one of the country's most senior police officers. Sir David Phillips, the president of the Association of Chief Police Officers and Chief Constable of Kent, believes investigators are too often good "all-rounders", but are unable to overcome the ploys used by criminals and their lawyers because they lack specialist training."

Suspect blood sent back into circulation
Sydney Morning Herald | Submitted by: Spookbabe
"People who got hepatitis C through tainted blood products will be outraged. It is one thing to get hepatitis C through mistakes, but it is another to know that hepatitis C blood was knowingly introduced into a system that the Red Cross itself says can never be 100 per cent safe."

Enlarged penises make Swazi women groan
Tiscali World Online | Submitted by: Dick Elangeni
It's just a short quick article, but with this sentence one must question journalistic intentions: "Male students are among his customers seeking a 'super shaft' to service the 'sugar mamas' who keep them in style."

U.S. Government can't spell
Wire Services | Submitted by: Dustin Prewitt
"Computerized databases at the FBI, CIA, Immigration and Naturalization Service and other agencies bulge with lists of suspected terrorists. Some of the names identify actual terrorists. Others are aliases, misspellings, alternative spellings or misidentifications of putative bad guys. And without extensive fieldwork, there is no way to tell them apart."

Three hours, and that's the best you could do?
USA Today | Submitted by: Mr. Orly
When she showed up at the hospital with two dead children, this Detroit mom told the authorities she had been kidnapped and raped. Eventually, she changed her story just a bit: she had left the kids in her black car, with the windows rolled up, while getting her hair done. And when she came back and found 3 year old and the infant roasted, she drove around with their bodies for 3 hours trying to come up with a story. Must have been one heck of a drive.

Ah! Ancient chinese dildo!
Straits Times | Submitted by: george_lazenby
Seven ancient bronze dildoes have been uncovered from a Han Dynasty tomb in Xian, China. This is the first time so many of them have been unearthed from that era (206 BC - AD 25). Because the dildoes were cast from a mold, it suggests there were dildo-specialist artisans. Experts believe members of the royal court as well as aristocratic women used dildoes.

Welsh were ethnically cleansed
Times | Submitted by: doshman
"The invading Anglo-Saxons either killed the Celts who originally occupied all of England or put them to flight without pausing to take their pleasure with the women. The result, researchers have discovered, is that the English and Welsh have absolutely nothing in common. Genetically, that is."

The technology of cocaine
Business 2.0 | Submitted by: Soylent
"The mainframe was loaded with custom-written data-mining software. It cross referenced the Cali phone exchange's traffic with the phone numbers of American personnel and Colombian intelligence and law enforcement officials. The computer was essentially conducting a perpetual internal mole hunt of the cartel's organizational chart. "They could correlate phone numbers, personalities, locations -- any way you want to cut it," says the former director of a law enforcement agency. "Santacruz could see if any of his lieutenants were spilling the beans."
